Community

The sixth annual Scranton Zine Fest took place this past Saturday, June 11th 2016. The festival is a gathering of artists.

Artists. We are like a herd of deer.

There is something very special about trying to sell artwork individually but also as a group. At the Zine Fest, nearly 30 artists, writers, and musicians set up shop in Scranton. We all had separate tables. But the sense of community made it feel like we were all sitting at one very large table eating a nice dinner. At this nice dinner, I met artists who liked my work and I liked their work so we traded art for art. Is there anything more beautiful than that? Someone likes your work so much that they’ll trade their own little piece of their heart just to own your piece of heart and on and on it goes. I didn’t make a lot of money but I traded a LOT, and I was more than happy to do so. Connecting with a community of artists in a small town under a blue sky…it was perfect. I have never felt so complete in this crowd of strangers. But they’re not strangers. They’re artists.
